Distinguish between an incident and a pattern

A parent gives a child a large responsibility again. Previous arrangements were repeatedly not fulfilled. The parent does not have to conclude that the child is "unreliable" as a person. However, they may align the new responsibility with what actually happened earlier.

Which choice feels safer if you base it on what someone has actually done, rather than on what you hope they will do?

You can remain human and still be realistic. Not judging someone does not mean you have to forget previous experiences.

Do not make behaviour an identity. People can learn, change and behave differently in another context.
